Meet our President Dan McMillan
Did you grow up playing soccer?
I grew up playing soccer in Palo Alto, starting around age 5 playing in AYSO. Starting in 7th grade, I joined the Palo Alto Soccer Club, and then played for my high school team. I also played four years on the UC Santa Cruz team (Go Banana Slugs!). After college, I played on multiple men’s and coed teams into my 30s, in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington.
Why did you want to coach?
I got recruited to coach inHMB AYSO by a fellow Hatch parent (Chuck Stewart is to blame), starting ten years ago. When my kids transitioned to HMB SC, I eventually moved over to the HMB SC to continue coaching, starting in 2019. This fall, I am coaching for both the HMB SC and AYSO.
What do you like most about HMBSC?
What I like most about being part of HMB SC is that it is truly a community organization, benefiting kids and families from all parts of the Coastside. I think participating in team sports is an invaluable experience, promoting hard work, cooperation, self-sacrifice, and competition, all while getting some exercise.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not on the field?
When I am not at the field, I like to bike, hike, hoop, cook, read, watch movies, and spend time with my wife, kids, and friends.
