Questions for Krissi Rolleri, Profile of a Coach

Did you grow up playing soccer?  If so, where?

I grew up playing soccer with the Half Moon Bay Soccer Club. As I got older, I played on a boys travelling team as HMB did not have any older girls teams . I was fortunate enough to travel to Australia when I was 15 to play games in Sydney.

Why did you want to coach?

After watching others coaching my first son playing AYSO at age 4.5 years old, I knew I needed to coach. I knew I could teach kids much more than what they were learning. Coaching also took the focus off my son which made the game more enjoyable for him. I have coached all 3 of my kids for the last 18 years in both AYSO and HMBSC.

What is your favorite part of being a soccer coach at HMBSC?

The kids are my favorite part of being a coach. Watching them mature into young adults while having a positive influence on them brings me the most joy. Over the last 10 years, I have developed great relationships with players. The first team I helped coach, the 97-98 boys, the players still will make a point to come say hello to me. That is a great feeling.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not on the field?

When I am not on the field, I enjoy cooking, shopping, and spending time with my family. I always look forward to a family vacation to Mexico or Hawaii before fall season starts!

What lesson do you hope to instill in all of your players?

I hope to instill unselfishness, empathy, and the importance of teamwork in my players. I also want them to be respectful to one another and support each other on and off the field.
